How to bath a very large, heavy, furry dog/bitch.

Video click at bottom of page this evening Sept 9th 2001

Being in the middle of DIY operations in the bathroom is no excuse for the dogs missing their baths!

Here comes Daisy first, then Chaucer, then Thisbe.

Apparatus:

1. Bottle of Radox Herbal bath.

1.Bottle of Johnson's Baby Shampoo.

1synthetic sponge with scrubber reverse.

1artery forceps those which clip together on the handle.

1 syringe.

1 dry towell to kneel on.

Several towels 1 to dry the dog and others for the dog to walk on over tiles as otherwise they would be exceedingly slippy!

Rubber apron unless its easier to drop you clothes on the bathroom floor when you've finished and throw them in the washing machine! However I put on the rubber apron as I don't want my clothes in the machine with the dogs' towels!

Method.

First get a Julian to lift Daisy first into the sudsy water. What an effort..... she's either overweight or just robust and a very big girl.

Daisy loves having a bath as you will see and will lie on her back without too much persuasion. I want them to do that so that their ears will be under water and can be easily washed.

We like to use Johnson's baby shampoo because we don't think the manufacturers would not dare to put anything obnoxious in any product meant for babies! It doesn't hurt their eyes or ears!

Start by running a thick line of the shampoo from the top of the head down to the tail. Massage it into a thick froth which is very easy with the herbal bath in the water.

Put some shampoo in the ears and hold the ear in your hand and rub it about distributing the shampoo on the inner flap of the ear.

Next persuade the bather to lie on his/her back...Once you can get them over they quickly discover"This is nice" and contentedly lie on their back for ages giving their ears a good soaking.!

We use a shower type device to get the soap out of their ears and then of the rest of them. Don't forget to pull out the plug before you begin showering them by that means all the sandy grit etc is removed ready for the next bather!

Put the towel over the dog's head and gently dry....Carefully dry the inside of the ear. Take your artery forceps and pluck gently any fur growing inside the ear taking great care not to pick up any skin.

Next shake out a large bath towel and drape over dog until he's ready for a jousting match and looks just like a medieval warhorse and then drag outside as fast as you can because they don't want to go out they would much prefer to shake all the water in cascades over the antique grandfather clock etc and gold velvet ancient chesterfield!

Should there be any chance whatsoever of earmite in

festation from a cat or other clean out with teatree oil or spray with Nuvan top we don't use it a they have no contact with any source of earmites. They may also have a yeasty type nuiscence in which case try that which is used for human athletes foot.

If you find your dog has been scratching his ear pour honey in and wait a couple of days then wash carefully. Honey is brilliant and recommended by James Le Fanu Weekend Telegraph doctor.

Next and next and next etc etc
