RSPCA KILLS DONOR'S DOG

An old lady left her 70,000-pound estate to the RSPCA - only for them to put her dog down before police had a chance to find him a new home.

Twenty people wanting to adopt Gyp the 10-year-old collie cross-had rung South Yorkshire Police after his mistress died aged 70.

PCs Alan Jarvis and James Watson asked the RSPCA to care for the pet while they checked out all the offers. But a vet decided Gyp should be destroyed.

Angry PC Jarvis said, "As a dog lover I was disgusted. Gyp would have lasted a couple of years." "The RSPCA were aware we were trying to find him a new home and we were given an assurance he would be cared for."

The RSPCA said the animal was riddled with arthritis and was almost blind. A spokesman said: "It was a very old dog and could hardly walk. //cutting ends
