SAVE DOG WHICH BROUGHT ROGER BACK TO LIFE

(cutting News of the World 22nd April 2001. Large photo at bottom read while it downloads.

Early one morning Roger Hawkins woke with a chest pain.

It was freezing but, clad only in boxer shorts, he got downstairs to take a painkiller. Next thing he remembers is waking up with his alsatian Cassie lying on top of him.

His chest was covered with scratches where the dog had frantically tried to wake him. In fact he'd had a massive heart attack.

His cardiologist said it was a miracle he had survived. Without the dogs's warmth Roger (pictured below) would have died.

He had by-pass surgery but, because of the damage caused by th heart attack, he is registered disabled.

Now Cassie is the one needing help. She's 10 and urgently needs a new hip - but that'll cost £2,000. Roger of Swindon, can't afford it but feels he owes Cassie his life.

"Can you help take away her pain?" he asked.

Yes we can help and if YOU can help too just send a cheque payable to Captain Cash, News of the World, 1, Virginia Street,London E98 1NW

PS. If you're broke lobby e-mail the RSPCA to help Cassie, they've just built themselves a new block of offices for several£ millions perhaps they can spare some for this lovely dog.

I don't imagine they wll help try thePDSA there's much more hope of assistance there. We've always heard they are compassionate to animals AND humans.
