SEVEN NEW PUPPIES FOR THE MET

PC Mel Bowen, who runs the force's dog breeding programme, with his new recruits SEVEN puppies started their year-long training this weekend to become top police hounds. The two-month-old Alsation dogs called Luther, Legend, Lance, Laser, Linzy, Lucinda and Ludo are part of the Kent Police Dog Section. For a few months, they will leave the Stockbury Kennels, in Sittingbourne, Kent, to get accustomed to the world, before returning for an intensive six-month course on scent training, searching and detaining people. Sergeant George Middlemiss said: "Within a year they will be fully-trained police dogs able to track a scent for three miles." /cutting ends
