Marcia (photo Shropshire Star 1999)

"Look, I'm really sorry" said the doctor "but the biopsy's come back and I'm afraid its bad news."
What would you say if you were told that Marcia had heard that little speech. Every woman knows what that means. You would shudder and perhaps mentally cross yourself and thank the gods it isn't one of your kids... it isn't you.

Next thing any normal woman would do is pick up the phone. "Marcia I'm so sorry to hear about your problem is there anything, anything at all we can do to help?"

Visions of the large number of animals you've heard about in Marcia's care float before your eyes.. What a ni.htmlare... and don't you remember Marcia's husband ran off somewhere, well "ran" is perhaps not quite the word!

Marcia is a victim, there's no doubt about that. If you click on the photograph you will be able to read why I think so.

I have never visited Marcia although we live quite near to each other. I met her twice and have spoken to her on the telephone on a number of occasions.

Last time I spoke to her on the phone, she rang from the local mental hospital. I dare say that's not politically correct but that's the truth of it. She asked me if I could help her. I said I would try, but having had a nasty accident not long ago I wasn't quite in full flow!

She told me she had been arrested would you believe, and taken to the police station and questioned by the RSPCA. (What? I thought) Evidence of how people get their wires crossed (read the powers of the RSPCA by Dr Barry Peachey) how did they manage that I wonder?

A hideous tale emerged of how the RSPCA men mentally tortured her. The story went on and on over some time until in the end she found herself in Shelton. She was greatly distressed that she wasn't even allowed to have a pair of tights taken in for her.

Indeed I would have thought it a foregone conclusion that she would think along lines which would have precluded tights as a present.

This is all going on during the Foot and Mouth epidemic. The RSPCA, Marcia told me were threatening to take her horses away. That raises questions in my mind too what were they doing trolling about from one farm to another just then carrying about the seeds of death to other animals, when some farmers in this area had told me they hadn't been able to go out for three weeks.

The RSPCA have made statements to the effect that they are helping the farming community all they can during this disastrous time. They said they were going about throwing bales of hay over the hedges etc for starving cattle and sheep.!!! Living with Marcia must have tainted those animals she owned who apparently weren't deserving of a bale of hay over the hedge!

Prince Charles who gave a huge amount to the "help fund" himself as did his friend The Duke of Westminster criticized the RSPCA for not giving more generously out of their £165M nest egg..

What exemplary (!) cruelty to say to Marcia that she is banned from keeping animals for five/ten years. The RSPCA sought a "life ban.." .What goes through your mind? Bizarre they are! What delicate piece of surgery is that? perhaps they could use a chain saw next time!

I am quite sure Marcia is saying to herself I wonder what the outcome of this illness will be. How long have I got etc which in a state of gloom you would think like that wouldn't you? In the environment of hatred and fear and degradation and mortification engendered by the actions of the RSPCA, you could spiral into the deepest depthsof the abyss

Of course now-a-days thank goodness new treatments are being discovered by the minute. If she keeps on the soya diet I am sure she'll be perfectly well unless she's given another dose of he RSPCA medicine.

The horses in the picture.......... one looks thin and receives the benefits of compassionate feelings and dealings from the RSPCA.(remarkable actors!)

Marcia has life threatening breast cancer and receives torture, stress, humiliation in the public eye of the media all brought on by the RSPCA. Whatever is the matter with them? Do they have a special library of books by and about the Marquis de Sade?

Anyone who follows the exploits of the RSPCA knows they've all had a compassionectomy . What kind of creatures would torture a woman under such circumstances? What kind of creatures would drag her through a court of law and add enormously to her stress. Do you know just how many diseases and health problems are caused by stress?

Why didn't they offer to help? Why didn't they give her animals food on her farm like they say they gave to the sheep/cattle. Why did they want to take her animals away. The RSPCA have enough money to fund a" help team" to go round and offer assistance rather than fund a gestapo team. They could have done all the so easy jobs for healthy people brushed the horses and dogs changed their water, sorted out the food cleaned the kennels. Such easy jobs which must turn into excruciatingly painful exercises having to raw slashes across your chest. Violent sickness from chemotherapy. Thoughts as to what it has done to you as a woman. Can you pick up any newspaper without some page three type vision before you?
How would that make you feel?

In another earlier paper, it was said that a little terrier had a broken leg so the vet cut if off...well done! Better than they did with the one they had in their own rescue centre. Read about it here. If you look up the word "hypocrite" in the dictionary what's the betting you'll discover it means RSPCA!!

Most civilized people feel an impulse to protect and aid others made helpless by an act of fate. Not the RSPCA in their words not mine...they wish she had had a life ban.... Such a caring organisation!

I think the point here, Timothy, is that a degree of compassion and understanding is called for.

Let me take you through this one step by step.... 1. If someone is suffering from an illness (mental or physical) then it is pretty obvious that their ability to cope with situations will be affected. Agreed?

2. People's judgement is affected by stress. Agreed?

3. Being told you have a life threatening illness would cause you stress. Agreed?

I don't think that anyone could disagree with these 3 statements unless, Timothy, you wish to say otherwise.

Following on from the above, we have to ask what happens to a person when put under unbearable pressure. Maybe their appearance suffers, maybe their relationships suffer, maybe their work suffers... Ah! So what if they have a job pen-pushing? The in tray gets fuller, mistakes are made, they can't get the sack because to sack a person for being ill is illegal. Why, even the employer has to be careful that he isn't sued for the mental state of the employee.

Now, and here's the big one. Too big perhaps for anybody who has never been self-employed to understand.

It is about someone who has never had the cushion of staff-welfare departments, union representation, free counselling, etc. Someone who falls outside the benefits system. If you are one of those people and anything happens to disturb your equilibrium then you are ON YOUR OWN. Totally. So here you are, Timothy, all alone. Cancer diagnosed and responsibilities which won't go away. Bills which you cannot pay because the energy to get the money in has vanished.... your ability to cope has been extinguished. There's a recognised medical term for this condition - depression. So, what you are saying, Timothy, is that people who are struck down by depression and who do not have to care for others are deserving of help because their depression hurts no one but themselves. And those who become ill and have care of other creatures are deserving of prison? You disgust me.
