RSPCA expels Richard Meade THE RSPCA expelled a prominent member yesterday after claiming that he was behind a campaign to overturn its policy on field sports. Richard Meade, the Olympic equestrian and supporter of foxhunting, had his membership ended following a meeting of the RSPCA's ruling council. The society said it wanted to be protected from his "damaging campaign". Malcolm Phipps, RSPCA chairman, said it had evidence that Mr Meade had run a group called Countryside Animal Welfare Group which encouraged hunt supporters to join the RSPCA to change its policy on hunting with dogs. Mr Meade, who denies there was a campaign, said yesterday he was sad that the RSPCA found itself unable to tolerate differing views on animal welfare.
