WELSH WITCHS GARDEN APRIL 04

I struck the match. "What ARE you doing?" shouted Erik

"What? I'm going to fire this pampas grass"

"You can't do that there's a nest in there. Come and look"

And this is what we found. We think its a robin's nest? I felt quite excited about that.

I've been so busy this morning cleaning the kennels with the pressure washer which takes the paint off but it does takes all cobwebs down too.

The Iris plants are all "taking" and I am delighted to see hat all the large budleija we moved are perking up. It was a chance, but we watered them or five minutes each yesterday and the day before. I'm sure they're going to make it now.

If you have a lot of ground and not enough cash to fill it with all the things you would like try doing what I've done as in the picture below. I really am throwing these plants out as they proliferate at a rate of knots you wouldn't believe, but they're very useful fillers!

The trees with the exception of the budleija are the real McCoy but the bits and bobs on the left at the rampant plants that are being tipped out.

The first two rows of broad bean are looking good. We're bit behind as the rotovator isn't back yet...and Erik's grown these in the new greenhouse! There's another two row nearly ready to go out.

I am thrilled to bits because...today the Canna have come up on the kitchen windowsill..there are four out of seven T&M seeds.

No pansies (those were Unwins not T&M as I first thought). Only one nicotiana so far T&M and from a packet of Titanic sunflowers I have two sunflowers and eight sweetpeas!

The daffodils in the orchard this side of the old henhouse have all died down now but we'll just leave them to collect their energy for next year!

Background is a melange of yellow and blue iris from the flag garden.
