WELSH WITCH'S GARDEN AUGUST 2002

This side of the four tall pillars over which grows the four 50' Hymalian Musk roses....now all gone for this year.

Daisies at the back the rose hips are on the shrub roses, the perfume from the leaves of the rose on the left wafts across the garden every morning and evening when I water them.

In front aster "Spider", Aster Carpet Ball. In front of them, Dianthus Rainbow Lovliness mixed, and Nemesia, also a few Oxalis with their clover like leaves with black centres. Everything is late this year because of delayed planting times. At the back to the right of the daisies is the Snowy Mespilius which was covered with little white flowers in the Spring and will turn a firey red in the Autumn.

I have to use the little lawnmower. to get round the corners on this garden, above, otherwise my hair gets stuck in the roses spilling over from the pillars.

Back in the afternoon garden, where we hope to have an hour reading every day. It never seems to work out like that.

Detail from the other side of this central island garden.. This garden is much paler than I initially planned, but as it turns out its very restful just what we want for our afternoon rest. BUT no for long as the broad beans are now all ready to be picked and shelled and frozen. What a job. They're all done now and in the deep freeze along with the rabbits the guns have brought in and pigeons who thought they would eat all the cabbage.

The background picture is the gold Datura like the purple one on the previous page should have ten inch flowers plus the perfume.
