WITCH'S GARDEN MARCH 04
Its very boring working on the same patch all the time so I've moved up to the orchard garden. The patch along this fence is about 50' long This is going to be a red/yellow/orange bed for a change. There is honeysuckle up every apple tree. The rackety old fence will be replaced by the new green one which is hiding behind the chicken house...when we have time. Crocosmia Lucifer is tall and a very beautiful vibrant red as is the rose Trumpeter of which there are two. In between are eight helichrysum which are shades of all colours. The gladioli of which I planted 300, also shades of all colours....have now become a lot more I don't want to dig them up to find out how many! In between the perenials already planted I will be sowing directly into the ground lots of annuals like Welsh poppies, nigella, dahlias......I must remember to sow some asters too for later colour. Last year this patch managed to cover itself with yellow and red nasturtiums. You can see the remains on the grass in front. Through the fence is the vegetable garden are we eat a lot of the perpetual spinach you can see growing in abundance there. Behind the vegetable garden the other bed has become very wild but we have lots of bushes and plants to go in there.Operations on this further patch also started today. We have been round the hedges putting in more roses in an effort to stop next farm's cattle visiting.
Very cheerful Kerria Japonica in fron, four new rhododendrums behind. |
